With a limited production,
Carhartt winemaking is a low-tech, hands-on approach.
The fruit for this year’s Rosé was a proprietary
blend of the 2006 Syrah and Merlot harvest. The grapes
were hand picked, sorted, and gently de-stemmed into
fermenting bins. A 20% juice draw was the source for
this Rosé, and it was then put into neutral barrels
for fermentation. After 5 months in barrel, the wine
was filtered and bottled.
The 2006 Rosé is a bright,
fun, and refreshing wine. With aromas of citrus and
strawberry and a lovely pale berry color, this wine
is a mouthful of fruit. The nuances of the blend of
Syrah and Merlot produces a wine that achieves a nice
balance between acidity and subtle sweetness.
Served chilled, it makes for a perfect
spring or summer sipping wine. In addition, it would
pair beautifully with barbeque, appetizers, salads and
sushi.
Production was 250 cases.
